Endoscopy is a non invasive procedure used to examine digestive tract. Using an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it, a clinician can view pictures of digestive tract on a color TV monitor.

Some endoscopes have a space where a doctor can insert a surgical instrument to allow surgery or removal of tissue.

(1) Cancer, (2) Bile duct problems, (3) Gastrointestinal bleeding, whether from a peptic ulcer or other cause, (4) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), (5) Barrett's esophagus, a condition in which the esophagus is damaged by acid reflux, (6) Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), a rare genetic disorder that causes body to form polyps (extra tissue) in colon, rectum, and upper GI tract. These can become cancerous.
